Rebecca Lopez is an award-winning journalist and the Senior Crime and Justice Reporter at WFAA-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth. A veteran reporter who began her television news career in 1988, Lopez has spent decades covering the criminal justice system, law enforcement, courts, and major public safety issues, earning a reputation as one of Texas' most respected journalists.
Since joining WFAA in 1998, Lopez has become known for her investigative reporting, exclusive stories, and commitment to accountability journalism. Her work has exposed wrongdoing, prompted reforms, and given a voice to victims and families seeking answers.
Over the course of her career, Lopez has earned 10 Emmy Awards and received the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award, one of the highest honors in broadcast journalism. Her reporting has been recognized for its impact, integrity, and dedication to serving the public.
A graduate of the University of North Texas, Lopez is also a strong advocate for diversity in media and journalism education. She currently serves as President of the DFW Hispanic Communicators, helping mentor aspiring journalists and support scholarship programs for future media professionals.
