About me
Gina Hinojosa, the Democrat nominee for Governor of Texas, is a lawyer, educator, and public
servant with more than two decades of experience advocating for students, workers, and Texas families. Raised in the Rio Grande Valley, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from George Washington University before returning to Texas to practice civil rights and labor law, representing workers and advocating for fairness in the workplace.
Hinojosa first entered public service in 2012, when she was elected to the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees. She later served as board president and became known for her commitment to strengthening neighborhood public schools. In 2016, she was elected to the Texas House of Representatives, where she served until 2025 and became a leading voice on education, health care, voting rights, and economic opportunity. Throughout her years in public service, she focused on expanding opportunity and ensuring that government works for all Texans.
As the Democrat nominee for governor, Hinojosa is campaigning on a vision of strengthening public schools, lowering costs for working families, expanding access to health care, protecting reproductive freedom, and defending voting rights. She argues that Texas' future depends on investing in its people and creating opportunity in every community. Her campaign is centered on the belief that strong schools, a healthy workforce, and broad civic participation are essential to building a stronger and more prosperous Texas.
